Winter Trails Day offers children and adults new to snow sports the chance to try snowshoeing and cross country skiing for free, and to discover the great fitness and social benefits with these easy-to-learn winter sports. Winter Trails programs and activities vary in size and scope.

Many Members get booked early, so the sooner you reserve the better! Please remember this program is for children and adults who have never cross country skied or snowshoed before and you must contact the specific Great Lakes Winter Trails Council member to make a reservation!

If you are new to winter sports, snowshoe and cross country are easy to learn and fun for all ages, making them perfect for families. They are a great way to get good exercise and to get outdoors in a true Pure Michigan Winter Wonderland.

Treetops Resort – Dog Sledding Adventures – 2011 – 2012

We are so excited to be offering Dog Sledding again in 2011-12…Here’s the scoop (no pun intended)

We are partnering with the Iditarod Sled Dogs of OCM Mushing this winter and will bring you to opportunity to experience Dog Sledding at its finest. Each journey takes place on the scenic trails of the Robert Trent Jones Sr. Masterpiece golf course with its blanket of snow.

Experience the thrill with these options:

1/2 hour tours – $75 per (up to) 4 person sledload
1 hour tours – $140 per (up to) 4 person sledload
NEW THIS YEAR
Driving Experience – $175 per (up to) 3 person sledload. You will drive the team with the assitance of a musher.
Sprints – $15 per child 12 and under OR $20 per teen or adult 13 and older. Various days through the season, you’ll find the dogs on the slopes at Treetops conducting 100 yard sprints. You’ll be amazed how fast 1 dog can pull you when there’s a cookie waiting for him/her.

Each ride typically consists of 2 adults and 2 small children. During your experience, you’ll learn interesting facts about the dogs, their racing history, lifestyle, vet needs and the lifelong bond between the dogs. You’re in for an unforgettable experience….but space and dates are limited.

Boyne Highlands Cross Country Ski Race – January 2, 2011 – CANCELLED

BOYNE X-C RACE UPDATE: The cool down we were hoping for overnight never happened and with the light rain we received, part of our trail was lost. With the temps expected to stay in the upper 30’s & 40’s until sometime Saturday, we are forced to cancel the race for Sunday, January 2. We held off on making the call, hoping for the best but unfortunately, it never happened. Thanks for your patience and understanding. Think snow! Cross Country racers of all ages gather at Boyne Highlands for a classic  Cross Country Race.

Details and Information

  • 11K Classic for all racers 18 and older
  • 5K Classic for all racers 17 and younger
  • Registation will be in the Cross Country Center/Heather Pro Shop day of the race at 8:30am
  • Race begins at 11am with a mass start
  • Top 3 finishers in each age division will receive awards

Entry Fees

  • Senior Men and Women $40
  • OJ/J1/J2 $20
  • Entry fee includes lunch for all racers

Please join us for a high level race clinic that will cover all aspects of Ski and Snowboard preparation, including a peek into the latest World Cup level of waxing and tuning!

Mike Wagner, Director of Alpine Race Service for Swix Sport, will provide valuable information on the care and maintenance of your ski or snowboard. Demonstrations include sharpening and waxing utilizing the latest tools, waxes and techniques that are being used at the highest levels of ski and snowboard competitions throughout the world!
